When Sabine, a college student, comes home unexpectedly, she finds her mother’s spell book and tools of the craft. Her mother was a witch? Was everything a lie?
To prove that magic is real, Sabine uses a bespelled ring to transport her into the pages of fiction. But, when the ring is stolen, she’s stuck in a world of corsets and spaceships where no one has heard of women’s lib.
Sabine’s arrival transports Dirk, the main character of the book, 100 years into his past. Just days before his entire family is slaughtered in a sham political treaty, he is desperate to learn how her ring altered time to avert the coming tragedy. Sabine knows more than she’s saying, but her fear holds her silent. The harder he pushes, the harder she fights back. He must find the ring and earn her trust before it’s too late to save the people he loves.
Sabine walks a knife’s edge between what she must do to survive and what she can live with when she goes home, but she never counted on their suffering. They aren’t just words on a page. Not anymore. She must end the spell, preferably before Dirk discovers what she’s done or anyone else dies. Death is real in the book, even for her. If she isn’t cunning and quick, her family won’t even have a body to bury..
